Arturo Stàlteri, born in Rome and graduated at "Alfredo Casella" Conservatory of Aquila.
He studied in Rome with Vera Gobbi Belcredi, in Paris with Aldo Ciccolini and in 1983 he was a fulltime student on Vincenzo Vitale's course for technical pianoforte. In 1995 he was a fulltime student on Konstantin Bogino course.
He scored the music for Barbara Schaefer's ballet "Visione Dai Tarocchi" and for the theatre play "Artemisia", "Maschera" and “Angelika Bellezza”, directed by Daniele Valmaggi.
He scored also the music for t he 1921 Ivo Illuminati's silent movie SELIKA .
Music critic on the radio programme "Il Pianoforte" for Studio A Radio Vaticana, for RAI Radio3 he has conducted "Senzavideo", "Orione", "Blue Note Suoni Paralleli", "Alfabeti Sonori", "On The Road", "Lampi", “Il Terzo Anello”, “Fuochi”, “File Urbani”, “Primo movimento “, “I Concerti del Mattino”, “Alza il Volume!”, “Qui Comincia”, “Il Buon Natale” and “Winter Wonderland”. He has also conducted “Notturno italiano” on Rai International.
For RAI Radio2 Stàlteri has conducted “2 marzo 1963, “Volevo essere Mick Jagger”, “Jet Lag”, “Il Cammello di Radio 2”, “Fuori giri” and “Musical Box”.
On RAI SAT TV has conducted ”Satisfaction”.
Stàlteri has also been conductor and pianist in the Franco Battiato TV programme “ Bitte, Keine réclame ”. He has also played a role in “Musikanten”, a film by Battiato himself.
Recently he collaborated on the new Battiato's documentary "Attraversando il Bardo".
Arturo Stàlteri takes numerous concerts in Italy and abroad, turning his attention to a renewed relationship between classical music and non-academic composers.
On his performances for solo piano you can hear, along with his down compositions, tracks by Debussy, Satie... and Sakamoto, Nyman, Glass, Mertens, Genesis, Sigur Ros...
In 2002 Stàlteri played a concert at the historical jazzclub Vortex in London.
Still in London he played in 2003, at the prestigious Saint Giles and Cripplegate Church (Barbican).
He is often a member of the board in national and international piano competitions.
Stàlteri first became known with the group Pierrot Lunaire, one of the landmark names of progressive rock of the Seventies, a group which was able to put together rock and classicism and with whom he has recorded two albums for RCA ("Pierrot Lunaire" in 1975 and "Gudrun" in 1977). As a soloist he recorded "Andrè Sulla Luna" in 1979 and "...e il Pavone parlò alla Luna" in 1987.
In 1992 Materiali Sonori issued the cd "Syriarise", a work in which an electronic suite intertwines with minimalist and ethnic influences and which is, for the most part, dedicated to solo piano.
In 1995 "Flowers" was released, a collection of tracks for piano composed by Debussy, Glass, Way, Sakamoto, Corea and Stalteri himself.
Furthermore, in 1995 Stàlteri participated on the project "Marco Polo" by Nicola Alesini and Pierluigi Andreoni, playing with David Sylvian, Roger Eno, Harold Budd and other important artists.
In 1998 MP Records released the album by Fabio Liberatori “Empire Tracks” , for which Stàlteri wrote and performed three pieces; he has also composed and played three more tracks for the 2002 Liberatori's cd “The Asimov Assembly” (“Nightfall” was written with Sonja Kristina, ex vocalist from Curved Air).
Still in 1998 the cd " Circles" was released, a collection of tracks by Philip Glass performed on piano with the assent of Glass himself.
In 2000 he released “CoolAugustMoon”, on the music of Brian Eno (with the assent of Eno himself).
The work “Rings – Il Decimo Anello”, inspired by “The Lord of the Rings” appeared in 2003.
In 2005 Stàlteri released “Early Rings Compositions 1974/75” and in 2006 his interpretation of Rolling Stones classic “Ruby Tuesday” (on the B side the instrumental “Liquid Stone”), on transparent vinyl.
2007 is the year of “Child of the Moon - Dieci Notturni e un’ Alba”.
In 2009 Stàlteri released “Half Angels”.
In the same year Stàlteri is inside the audio book “Nessuna pietà”, together with Marco Vichi, Piero Pelù, Stefano Bollani, Ginevra Di Marco, Riccardo Tesi, Cisco, Massimo Carlotto, Carlo Lucarelli, Luca Scarlini and many others.
In 2010 he plays in “Sotto un cielo blu diluvio”, a cd by Grazia Verasani, and December 8th Japanese label releases the downloading of “A Little Christmas Album”.
“A Little Christmas album” was released in Italy in November 2011 by M.P. & Records.
In March 26th 2012 “ Flowers 2” is out.
"In Sete Altere - Arturo Stàlteri suona Battiato", has been released in September 22nd 2014.
Franco Battiato himself has supervised the work and has co-composed two tracks together with the roman pianist.
Other works are: the track "Gymnovalzer" which came out on a cd included with the magazine "Sonora 2/91"; the track "Un Notturno" on "Sonora 3/93"; "Broadwood" and "Mulini" on "The
Guide to Intelligent Music 1 and 2"; "Arabesque" on "Ai Confini Interzone" released for New Tone; "Pianure Del Sorriso", "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence", “Zawinul/Lava”, “The Moon and the Mirror”, “Rivendell” and “Starry Night” on cd compilations included with the magazine "New Age & New Sounds";)."Arabesque" was in 1995 on the cd "Se Il Cielo Fosse Di Carta Bianca", run by the Regione Toscana as a tribute to the 50th Anniversary of the Resistance. “The Grey havens’ Lullaby” came out on the cd included with the magazine “Keltika” (2004). “Gandalf the White“ was included on the Edel cd “Celtic Emotions Vol. 2” (2004). “The Old Forest” was included on the Irma cd “10 – Corso Como” (2004).
His music was also included on the compilations "Pianoforte 1 and 2"(1993 and 1996),
"Unlimited Ambient"(1997), "Alternative Meditations 1 and 2"(1998), "Olis"(1998), “Gypsies” (2001), “Special World Compilation” (2001), “Experience” (2003/2004) and World Music” (2003). In 2009 "Stregatto” was included in the cd ZAUM Vol.1, for the Irish label “Psychonavigation”.
The music of Stàlteri was also included on the cd enclosed to the book "L'ascolto terapeutico" (1997) and on the cdrom "Le Bandite di Scarlino"(1997).
In 1994 Materiali Sonori released "Racconti Brevi/...e il Pavone parlò alla Luna" on cd, which put together unreleased recordings (1977) and the remastered version of the 1987' record.
Stàlteri also collaborated on works by Rino Gaetano, Grazia Di Michele, David Sylvian and others.
With Arlo Bigazzi he has produced the album "Some Secrets" by Clare Ann Matz.
“My Son, the Physicist” , written with Fabio Liberatori, is in the soundtrack of the film by Carlo Verdone “L 'amore è eterno, finché dura”.
Stàlteri plays also Bach, Schubert and Chopin in “ Grande, Grosso e… Verdone ” , the new film directed by Verdone himself.
Many of his recordings have been issued in Japan and in Korea.
